ISPOC

ISPOC (IS Student Presentations Over the Cloud) is a “Ph.D. student only” seminar series. This series primarily aims at inviting senior IS PhD candidates (who are putting together their job market presentation) or junior faculty members (who have just successfully navigated the job market process) to present their job market presentation. Besides regular job talks, the series also invites senior faculty to give job market advice, and hold fireside chat sessions with ISPOC Alumni.

The three main focuses of this speaker series are :

Presentation Skills: While junior PhD students get to see some of the current job market candidates in action, the presenters get to practice their talk in front of an open-minded student community.
Methodologies: To introduce and receive feedback on novel methodologies such as on AI/ML, text analysis, Graph Theory, Matching, DAG, advanced econometrics etc.
Networking: To know what other junior colleagues are working on. To connect with them for potential collaboration opportunities in the future.

Started in 2020, ISPOC is an online series that brings together IS PhD students to hone their job market skills and share their job market experience.

ISPOC: Name and the Logo

As you may have guessed, the name and the logo derives its inspiration from Spock and his Vulcan Salute from the Star Trek series (the founder organizer wants to call himself a Star Trek geek). Logo has been designed by Elvis D'Souza, Director of Technology at Sensara Technologies, India and a dear friend of the founder organizer.
